Budget 2015: VAT refunds to medical courier charities

VAT cannot currently be claimed by medical courier charities.

A refund scheme will take effect on 1 April 2015 for medical courier charities whose main purpose is to provide a free out of hours service to the NHS, transporting urgently needed items such as blood, platelets, samples for analysis, drugs, patient notes, small medical instruments and donor breast milk. Refunds will be available on supplies made and acquisitions and importations taking place on or after 1 April 2015 where the cost is met from voluntary donations and public funding.

Medical courier charities will be able to use more of their funds to provide their valuable services.
