Save The Date: 22 July 2015 – Emergency Budget update
Gabelle LLP’s Quarterly Tax Reviews (QTR) in Jersey – Sign up for a COMPLIMENTARY taster session
Over recent years the UK Government has increasingly been shifting the obligation to comply with UK tax rules from UK resident individuals to offshore structures. As a result Jersey based trustees, directors, accountants and solicitors need to be up-to-date with UK tax developments.
To help you do this we are delighted to announce that from July 2015 we will be bringing our Quarterly Tax Review (QTR) training sessions to Jersey.
We are delighted to invite you to a complimentary session on Wednesday 22 July from 15.30 to 17.00.
What is QTR?
QTR is a 90 minute quarterly training course (formerly held by Matthew Hutton), held in London, Guernsey and now Jersey. It has been running for some 20 years and has over 100 delegates.
Led by Priya Dutta the aim is to provide an easily digestible summary of the most significant tax developments over the quarter. Attendees will also be provided with detailed notes to build up, over the years, a useful reference work and given a forum to discuss topical tax matters.
What is the content of QTR?
The material is drawn from HMRC press releases, Tax Bulletins, VAT business briefs, case reports and articles in the professional press. Each item carries a reference as to source which can be followed up if necessary. The July session will cover:
- Announcements from the UK Emergency Budget (to be announced on 8 July)
- Two recent ATED cases
- Updated HMRC guidance on the ATED and what you need to know before filing returns
- Partnerships and private client planning
- Capital versus income – the treatment of scrip dividends
- Principal private residence relief – recent cases
- Changes to HMRC guidance on QROPS
Who should come to QTR? Does it attract CPD?
QTR is designed not primarily for the person who spends 100% of his/her time on UK tax, but rather for professionals (whether trustees, tax advisors or solicitors) for whom UK tax issues form part of his/her profession. Attendance at QTR qualifies for 1.5 CPD hours for members of the Law Society, for 1.5 CPD points for accountants (if QTR is considered relevant to the delegate’s practice) and (subject to the individual’s self-certification) should also count towards training requirements for the CIOT. For STEP purposes, QTR qualifies for CPD in principle, on the grounds that at least 50% of the content is trust and estate related.
When and where is QTR held?
The Jersey meetings take place at the Pomme D’Or, on the third Wednesday of the month. After the July session our next session this year is in October.
Dates are fixed up to a year in advance and any one delegate from a firm can take up the firm’s place each month. The cost is normally £90 (billed every six months in advance) with prices for more than one delegate on application.
Venue: Pomme D’Or
Date: Wednesday, 22 July 2015
Time: 15.30 – 17.00
Cost: Complimentary (No cost)
